Research - First Person Camera Rigs

I've always wondered how to make first-person camera views without having to hold the camera myself. Using a quick Google search, I came across the video in which a child made a rig using simple items: a hat, a bolt, a few nuts and a a sharp item. My only concern is that this SFX can only be done with handheld video camera, meaning that some of the film opening might lack the quality of a 'proper' camera. I still thought it was interesting to look at!
