I'd have to say, costume and prop is the most important thing to work on whilst we film, our opening. Whist planning, it was mutually agreed that our group's initial concept is to create a 'world' that is believable, imaginative and aesthetically pleasing; that we should also highlight the realities of budget and the professionalism of production. I understand if we fail to create a vibrant and authentic universe in front of the camera, we will surfer for this, dearly, as well as losing all that important in terms ‘suspense and disbelief’ that is needed from our target audience. You'd be surprised; one bad prop, one disfigured costume or one poorly lit background can bring down the illusion we're trying to create, crashing and 'popping' the viewer out of the story. This is why costume and prop's so important to us.
Looking at our costume, we use an array of clothes/props to depict two types of people: the 'sick-student' & a nervous business-man. In our opening, Surrealism is created using make-up and other facial-grooming products such as: hair wax, foundations, etc. Budget was not a problem as these products were part our everyday usage. However, as good as our costume could be, it won't matter if our camera-work isn't up to scratch. This'll typically unfold in a couple of weeks unless you were me; letting everything unfold in a couple of days.
Because I played a public health official in the opening, my smart-costume consisted of shirt, tie, blazer, trousers and shoes. Though this isn't part of my 'everyday' wardrobe, I imagine playing role similar to a business man'll be fun!
